Community Nurse Specialists
Most people think it is still MacMillan who provide palliative care throughout our community and support those people with life-limiting illness to stay at home with their loved ones. Actually, for the past 25years it has been Ardgowan Hospice’s Specialist Community Nursing Team delivering this invaluable service.
Our Community Nurse Specialists are a team of specially trained and dedicated nurses who manage the care of patients and their families who are living at home with life limiting illness.
An important aspect of their role is spending time with patients and families in their own surroundings or care facility; providing emotional and psychological support. They also spend time listening and advising on various subjects such as treatments, symptom management, medication, home help services and financial assistance. Should it be more convenient, the team can also meet patients and/or carers in the Access Building of the Hospice.
Our Community Nurse Specialists liaise closely with the local primary health care team, general practitioners, district nursing services and social services.
