Allied Health Professionals
Allied Health professionals are essentially anyone in the health care team that isn’t a Dr or a nurse.
The Allied Health Professional Team (AHPs) at the hospice comprises of Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy and Complementary therapy. Our AHPs have jobs that make a positive impact in the lives and wellbeing of our patients and carers.
Therapy is carried out by the AHPs in a variety of settings at Ardgowan: on the inpatient unit; in the ACCESS building and in people’s own homes.
Patients are always assessed on an individual basis and where appropriate will join a group or class held in our ACCESS building. We have a variety of classes including an exercise class and breathlessness management.
Physiotherapy aims to promote independence and emotional wellbeing through improving quality of life by minimising the effects of disease and its treatment. This involves a range of simple techniques which combined with advice and individual or group exercise can help alleviate the effects of pain, fatigue, reduced mobility, anxiety and breathlessness.
