Volunteers are so important to the work of Ardgowan Hospice. We depend on contributions of time and skills so that we can continue to provide care to patients and their families.

Whatever inspires you to join us, you could become part of a vibrant, friendly community that makes a real difference.

Below is a list of current volunteer vacancies. Have a look and if there’s something that catches your eye where you think you have the talent, skills and time to help, we would love to hear from you. Current Vacancies

Volunteer Retail Assistants

Our Retail Assistants help to raise the funds we need to provide care to local people when they need it most. You will support our Community Retail Supervisors in every aspect of the shop, providing excellent customer service and going the extra mile to ensure that our shops are as successful as possible.

Volunteer Warehouse Assistants

Stockroom assistants will be based in our warehouse in Greenock’s West Stewart Street shop. The role will assist the team in sorting, pricing and preparing stock for delivery to our network of shops.

Volunteer Retail Van Drivers

Our volunteer van drivers and van driver assistants help with stock deliveries to ensure each store can maximise income to help fund patient care. The roles will include moving and sorting of household items and general warehouse duties. Volunteers need to be 25 and over to drive our vans, have a clean driving license and be physically fit.

Volunteer Bag Packers

Ardgowan Hospice is lucky enough to be offered ‘bag packing’ sessions at various supermarkets throughout the year in our local towns. However, we may have a short lead in time to find people to help us for a few hours. So if you would like to be on our Bank of Volunteers to Bag Pack, we’d love to hear from you.

Volunteer eBay Coordinator

Sometimes we are lucky enough to receive donations that would fetch more on eBay than in our shops. Your role is to research prices and list and manage items for sale on our hospice eBay site. You will provide excellent customer service and going the extra mile to ensure that our eBay department is as successful as possible to maximise income to help fund patient care.

Volunteer Bucket Collectors

Ardgowan Hospice is lucky enough to be offered ‘bucket collection’ sessions at various locations throughout Inverclyde. However, we may have a short lead in time to find people to help us for a few hours. So if you would like to be on our Bank of Volunteers, we’d love to hear from you – email fundraising@ardhosp.co.uk.

Volunteer Can Collectors

We are very fortunate that local businesses and community hubs across Inverclyde kindly agree to have our collecting cans on their premises.  This helps to provide vital regular income to help fund patient and family care.  So if you could spare a few hours every month or so then we would love to hear from you – email fundraising@ardhosp.co.uk.

Volunteer Receptionist

We are looking for volunteer receptionists who can each donate  a couple of hours every week to provide a friendly, courteous and helpful welcome to the In Patient Unit for patients, carers and visitors.

You should be comfortable answering external and internal telephone calls, and receiving and processing donations and gifts from the public.

Volunteer Complementary Therapist

As a volunteer therapist you will gain precious experience in a very supportive and integrated therapeutic environment. You will be working with a multitude of professionals treating patients and carers in palliative and end-of-life care, providing care and well-being for those who are really in need. The role gives you an opportunity to make a differecne to people affected by life-limiting illnesses. You will learn new skills including experience of working with patients with palliative care needs.

Hours Required

Day Service: Tuesday 10:30 – 14:30

In-Patient Unit: Afternoon’s

Skills/Experience Required

The ideal volunteer will have the following skills:

  • Competent complementary therapy practitioner in a variety of practices
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal
  • Evidence of good organisational skills in a workplace setting
  • Good administrative skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Patient, motivated, reliable, person centred, trustworthy & creative
  • Willing to learn

Volunteer Beauty Therapist/Makeup Artist

As a volunteer makeup artist you will be able to support people with body image issues and make them feel good about themselves. You will gain precious experience in a very supportive and integrated therapeutic environment.

Hours Required

Tuesday: any time between 10:30 – 14:30

Thursday: Any time between 13:00 – 15:00

Skills/Experience Required

Desirable:

  • Competent makeup artist
  • Good communication skills
  • Evidence of good organisational skills in a workplace setting
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Patient, motivated, reliable & trustworthy
  • Understand the importance of being person centred
  • Willing to learn

Volunteer Hairdresser

We’re looking for a volunteer hairdresser to join our team and help our patients look and feel good about themselves. You will gain precious experience in a very supportive and integrated therapeutic environment.

Hours Required

Day Service: Tuesday 10:30 – 15:00 & Thursday 12:30 – 15:30

In-Patient Unit: Any day in the afternoon

Skills/Experience Required

The ideal volunteer will have or be:

  • A competent hairdresser
  • Flair for recommending different styles
  • A good communicator
  • Evidence of good organisational skills in a workplace setting
  • Patient, motivated, reliable & trustworthy
  • Understanding of person centred support
  • Willing to learn

Volunteer Activities Worker

Along with a staff member, the purpose of this role is to enable Ardgowan Hospice service users to enjoy various arts and crafts or other activities. As an important team member, you will learn new skills including experience of working with patients with palliative care needs.

Thursday 12:30 – 15:00

The purpose of this role is to support the hospitality of patients and enable Ardgowan Hospice Day Services patients to enjoy various activities whilst you try to encourage/facilitate participation.
