Kinship Care Drop-In: August 6th
August 6 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Are you caring for a child who is a sibling, grandchild, niece or nephew? If so, you are a Kinship Carer and we would like to help.
Ardgowan has launched a service to support Kinship Carers like you, we are particularly interested in contacting those carers that provide a home, love and financial support on an informal basis.
This means that the child has not been placed formally with you by social work, but that you have provided a home as there was a need and you wanted to avoid foster or other care for the child.
If you are an unsupported legal guardian we would like to invite you to drop in and meet us so we can discuss with you over a cup of coffee about how we can help.
I didn’t even know I was a kinship carer when I took on my granddaughter 5 years ago. Knowing now that there is support available to me when I need it is gold dust to me” – Kinship Carer in Inverclyde
At the drop in session, some things we could chat about are:
- Whether you would like a time to meet other kinship carers and talk about what it’s like to make the commitment to look after a child that is not your
- Could we help with practical issues such as finances, residency orders and homework
- If emotional support is something you would be interested in to work through you and your child’s feelings because of the way life has treated
- If a death of a relative has caused your situation you may have had no time to grieve. You also may worry about what words to use to support your child who is grieving too.
The drop in will be held in our Access Building between 10am-1pm on Tuesday 2nd July. Access is located on the corner of Ardgowan & Nelson Street, nearby to our IPU at 12 Nelson Street.
If you have any questions about this service we will be happy to help, please drop in or call Janice Lee or Jill Morrow on 01475 726830, or email email@example.com.
