Fundraising Friday: Purdie’s Pantry Spotlight

At Ardgowan Hospice, we are continuously inspired and uplifted by the incredible support we receive from our local community.

Their efforts, creativity, and generosity help us provide vital care and services to those in need. On this Fundraising Friday, we want to shine a light on Purdie’s Pantry.

Opening their first shop in 2021, with a second store following in 2024, Purdie’s Pantry has been at the heart of Inverclyde.

With the help of their team, they have shown the hospice a huge amount of support through their fundraising efforts. Here is just a small insight into how the team at Purdie’s has supported Ardgowan Hospice and what the hospice means to them.

When did your fundraising journey start?

“Our fundraising started in August of 2022. We always knew how important the hospice was to so many people but because none of our family had been in the hospice, we never thought we would need it.

“When Rebecca’s Nana needed hospice care, we were all devastated by the news. But within a few days, we realised that the hospice isn’t a place where people go to die. She was treated with care and respect and I know Rebecca is so grateful for the love her Nana was given.”

Why did you choose Ardgowan Hospice?

“We have seen first-hand the care the hospice can provide. It is second to none.

“Both our families have had input from the community team and also the inpatient team and continue to do so on some levels.

In what ways have you raised money for Ardgowan Hospice?

“We have done several fundraisers within the shop over the last 2 years. Our daughter Emily made earrings last year and donated her takings to the hospice.

“We also tried to make the best of a cancelled fun day and donated our takings from that day to the hospice.

“Finally, all donations from our Nana’s funeral from friends and family were also donated to the hospice.

“It is the only charity we will give donations for from our shop as it’s something we feel very passionate about and support anyone trying to make a difference for the hospice.”

What does the Hospice mean to you?

“Ardgowan Hospice will always hold a special place in our hearts. Rachel’s Dad has had input from them and nothing is ever an issue with the community team always being on hand to help when required. He also attends the men’s wellbeing group which he loves!

“With the recent loss of Becca’s Nana, the hospice had massive input in her care and the way they looked after her will never be forgotten.

“We have true heroes that walk in that uniform and they don’t even realise it.

“From everything to community care and support after the loss of a loved one, it really is an unbelievable service.”

Why should people fundraise for Ardgowan Hospice?

“We were guilty of not donating to the hospice until our families had involvement.

“We were so wrong, it’s unbelievable to see how underfunded they are.

“Until recent years, I genuinely thought all hospices were fully funded by the government like the NHS.

“It is so important to ensure that we as a community are doing everything we can to support them.”

How can people in the community fundraise for Ardgowan Hospice?

“If everyone donated £1 a week it would go a long way. You can donate big or small and any donation will go a long way.

“Be it through hospice fundraising events, charity nights, in memory of a loved one, fun days, a challenge between friends… it all matters!

“It costs £11k to run the hospice daily and we believe it’s so important to keep this service in the area, you never know when you or your family will need it.”
