Kilmacolm Hospice Shop: Supporting Local Care

The Kilmacolm Ardgowan Hospice shop has become a cherished fixture in the community, playing a vital role in supporting local hospice care.

Offering a wide range of items from children’s clothing to bric-a-brac, jewellery, handbags, and more, the shop serves as both a bustling retail space and a key contributor to the hospice’s fundraising efforts.

Every sale made in the shop directly helps fund the care provided to those facing life-limiting illnesses in the community.

Pre-Loved Items, Priceless Impact

“Our shop in Kilmacolm is such a special place,” says Katrina Garcias, the retail cluster manager. “It’s more than just a shop – it’s a hub for the community to come together, whether they’re donating items, making a purchase, or simply supporting the hospice. Every item sold makes a real difference in the lives of the people we care for.”

The success of the Kilmacolm shop depends largely on the generosity of the local community. Residents are often eager to donate pre-loved items, from high-quality clothing to unique household goods.

What Items We Need

However, certain items are always in particularly high demand. “Handbags and jewellery are always popular with our customers,” Kat explains.

“We can never have enough of them, and they really help to boost our sales, allowing us to provide more support to those who need it most.”

Volunteers Power Kilmacolm Hospice Shop

What makes the Kilmacolm shop especially unique is the strong sense of community involvement. Kat highlights how the shop has become a meaningful way for people to contribute in memory of their loved ones.

“We often have people come in to donate items that belonged to a family member who was cared for by the hospice,” she shares.

“It’s incredibly moving to see how much it means to them to know that their loved one’s belongings are helping others. These donations have a special significance, and we treat them with the utmost care and respect.

“The volunteers who work at the Kilmacolm shop are also key to its success. Their dedication and hard work are at the heart of the shop’s daily operations.”

Every Sale Supports Hospice Care

“Our volunteers are absolutely fantastic,” Kat says with pride. “Many of them bring their expertise and passion to the shop, and it shows in everything they do. Whether they’ve had experience in retail or just want to give back, they’re truly invested in what we do.”

Kat is quick to express her gratitude to the volunteers who go above and beyond to keep the shop running smoothly. “We simply couldn’t do this without them,” she says.

“They’re not just lending a hand – they’re committed to our mission and to helping the hospice provide the best possible care. It’s amazing to see the impact their work has.”

Kilmacolm Community Backs Hospice Care

Looking ahead, the Kilmacolm shop has been taking part in a national competition for Hospice Care Week, a perfect opportunity to showcase the shop’s importance in the community.

“We’re excited to take part and raise awareness for what we do,” Kat shares. “The support from our volunteers and customers will be essential, and we’re hopeful it will bring even more people through our doors.”

Donations in Memory Make a Difference

For the Kilmacolm hospice shop, every donation and every purchase represents another step toward supporting hospice care. “We’re incredibly fortunate to have such a strong sense of community here,” says Kat.

“The people of Kilmacolm are always willing to rally behind us, and that’s what makes this shop so special. It’s not just about the items we sell – it’s about making a difference in people’s lives.”
