Each year, Ardgowan Hospice provides compassionate care and support to about 1000 people and their families in Inverclyde living with a life-limiting illness. A gift in your will can help fund this care.

Ardgowan Hospice is a charity providing specialist supportive care to people with life-limiting illnesses and their families, our services are free of charge to our patients. We need to raise over 60% of our yearly income in order to provide our care. A gift in your will can help us maintain and improve our;

  • Patient Transport Service
  • Emotional and Physical Therapies
  • Day Hospice services
  • Home visits from our Ardgowan Hospice Community Nurse Specialists
  • Treatments in our 8 bed In-Patient Unit
  • And much more
How to leave a Gift in your Will this October

We are proud to be working alongside several local solicitors this year to help make writing your will as simple as possible.

These solicitors are very kindly offering to write and amend existing wills FREE of charge for Ardgowan supporters. In return, they will only ask for a donation to the hospice (suggested donation of £95 for a single and £150 for a couple – ordinarily a will for a couple could cost around £300*).

When you call or email, please mention you’re phoning for Ardgowan Hospice’s Gift in Wills month.

*Please consider Gift Aiding your donation. If you donate £100, we would be able to receive an additional £25 from the tax man at no cost to you. Learn more about Gift Aid here: www.gov.uk/donating-to-charity/gift-aid

Why you should have a will in place

There are many reasons you should have a will. Here are some examples.

  1. You’ll decide how your estate is distributed.

This can be updated and amended if and when you need to update. If you don’t have a will in place, the distribution of your possessions will be decide for you by the state.

  1. Appoint guardians and make financial arrangements for young children.

Whether your appointing a guardian for your children, or securing a financial safety net for your grandchildren, a will can give you the piece of mind of knowing they will be cared for properly.

  • Manage your affairs to be tax efficient.

A gift in your will can help cut the amount of inheritance tax owed. Talk to a solicitor to learn more.

  • You can support your favourite charities.

Leaving a gift in your will can help charities fund their services long into the future. Gifts helped Ardgowan provide over 13,056 hours of vital care last year.

  1. Reduces stress for loved ones after your death.

The death of a loved one is a difficult time for any family emotionally. A will reduces the burden of the difficult decisions and arrangements they would otherwise have to make on your behalf.

  • Manage your digital legacy

You can manage how your bank, social media, cloud, streaming, gaming and more accounts are handled after your death. This can range from deletion to the passing on of passwords or memorialising the account.
