Volunteers are vital to Ardgowan Hospice. We depend on contributions of time and skills so that we can continue to provide care to patients and their families.

As a volunteer makeup artist you will be able to support people with body image issues and make them feel good about themselves. You will gain precious experience in a very supportive and integrated therapeutic environment.
Hours Required
Tuesday: any time between 10:30 – 14:30
Thursday: Any time between 13:00 – 15:00

We are very fortunate that local businesses and community hubs across Inverclyde kindly agree to have our collecting cans on their premises. This helps to provide vital regular income to help fund patient and family care. As a volunteer therapist, you will gain precious experience in a very supportive and integrated therapeutic environment. You will be working with a multitude of professionals treating patients and carers in palliative and end-of-life care, providing care and well-being for those who are really in need. The role allows you to make a difference to people affected by life-limiting illnesses. You will learn new skills including experience of working with patients with palliative care needs.

Day Service: Tuesday 10:30 – 14:30

Sometimes we are lucky enough to receive donations that would fetch more on eBay than in our shops. Your role is to research prices and list and manage items for sale on our hospice eBay site. You will provide excellent customer service and going the extra mile to ensure that our eBay department is as successful as possible to maximise income to help fund patient care.
You will work with our Facilities Manager to provide support to the Hospitality/Catering Team at the Hospice in order to meet the needs of our patients.
You will assist in our kitchen and hospitality areas within either/both Hospice buildings as required i.e. preparing and clearing up after meals and snacks, preparing tea trolley and issuing to patients and visitors etc.

As a Volunteer Housekeeping Assistant you will work with our Facilities Manager and provide support to the Housekeeping Team at the Hospice in order to meet the needs of our Patients.
You will assist in general housekeeping duties within both Hospice buildings as required i.e. vacuuming, dusting, mopping, emptying bins, restocking supplies i.e. soap toilet rolls, hand towels etc.

As a Volunteer Patient Driver you will use your own private vehicle to transport patients from their home to hospitals in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area for treatment or appointments.
You will need to have a full, clean driving licence ( current class B without endorsements) and be willing to complete a Protection of Vulnerable Groups Disclosure (PVG) application form. You must have private car insurance which includes liability for occasional business use – you need to advise your insurer that your vehicle will be used for volunteering and usually they do not apply an additional premium for this.
We would ask you to commit to providing a reliable service. Most of our volunteers offer a day per week on a regular basis. You will need to be in good physical health and be able to provide a safe, reliable, clean vehicle. You will need to show that your vehicle is well maintained, has valid road licence tax and has a valid MOT certificate (if car is over three years old).
As a volunteer patient driver, you will:
- Communicate to staff any questions or concerns about the patient or transport arrangements
- Adopt a friendly and caring approach towards patients and families
- Maintain utmost confidentiality about patient and hospice information at all times
- Be aware of and observe personal and professional boundaries
- Have a calm manner and the ability to deal with unexpected situations
Training and guidance will be given in all aspects of the tasks required for the role including Volunteer Induction, Health and Safety, Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults and Confidentiality.
Volunteer Patient Drivers are entitled to claim travel expenses between their home and the hospice. Mileage claims are submitted once a month and payment made electronically, directly to your bank account.
We are looking for volunteer receptionists who can each donate a couple of hours every week to provide a friendly, courteous and helpful welcome to the In-Patient Unit for patients, carers and visitors.
You should be comfortable answering external and internal telephone calls, and receiving and processing donations and gifts from the public.

Our Retail Assistants help to raise the funds we need to provide care to local people when they need it most. You will support our Community Retail Supervisors in every aspect of the shop, providing excellent customer service and going the extra mile to ensure that our shops are as successful as possible.
Our volunteer van drivers and van driver assistants help with stock deliveries to ensure each store can maximise income to help fund patient care. The roles will include moving and sorting of household items and general warehouse duties. Volunteers need to be 25 and over to drive our vans, have a clean driving license and be physically fit.
Stockroom assistants will be based in our warehouse in Greenock’s West Stewart Street shop. The role will assist the team in sorting, pricing and preparing stock for delivery to our network of shops.
