Volunteers’ Week 1-7 June
Ardgowan celebrates its volunteers in Volunteer’s Week 1-7 June 2018
Volunteers at Ardgowan Hospice will be thanked for their contribution at a special Volunteers Tea taking place on 4th June to mark Volunteers’ Week, which runs from 1-7 June.
Ardgowan has three volunteers for every staff member – that’s over 300 dedicated people offering their time to support the community of Inverclyde.
Lynsey Young, Volunteer Coordinator, said:
“Volunteers are central to the work at Ardgowan. They are a key part of the hospice team and we are glad that we can have this event to express our thanks for their commitment and dedication to the hospice.
“We have a number of roles for new volunteers. We really want to encourage people to try volunteering and help people find out how through volunteering how they can make a difference to a cause they are passionate about. “
Amy Brown, age 19, volunteers at the hospice’s furniture store, Carnock Street. She completed her HNC in Social Science last year and her aim is to get a job in the Prison Service. She became a volunteer to give her work experience and skills to help support her application for her chosen career.
“I was looking for jobs online and that’s when I saw the advert for volunteering at Ardgowan Hospice. I started working at the furniture store. The people are really friendly, the staff and the customers. I am learning new skills every day.”
Ardgowan is joining charities across the UK in supporting events to thank their volunteers and celebrate the power of volunteering to bring communities together. Last year more than 900 events took place, from awards ceremonies to tea parties and barbecues.
