World Walking Day 2023

graphic of the world with text announcing 1,609,649 steps were counted for world walking day

Over the first weekend of October, selected staff and volunteers at Ardgowan Hospice supported the charity’s ‘MYlife’ group to celebrate World Walking Day 2023. Together, we rallied behind Duncan, a local supporter of our charity, who aimed to collect enough steps to walk around the world.

Utilizing the fantastic resources provided by Duncan’s very own platform, worldwalking.org, we embarked on this virtual journey over the 30th of November and the 1st of October. Individuals walked, jogged, and ran, as much as they could over

the weekend and in total, Team Ardgowan accumulated an impressive total of 1,609,649 steps! Every step taken was appreciated and supported not only by those within our MYlife group (who encouraged staff and volunteers to get involved) but also by local businessman Duncan who celebrated 10 years of his charity platform, worldwalking.org, on World Walking Day!

This collaborative effort demonstrated the power of our workforce and the impact we can make when we work together towards a common goal. By leveraging the platform of World Walking, we not only helped Duncan come closer to his own charity’s goal of collecting enough steps from users to walk around the globe but also contributed to our own well-being and fitness.

The spirit of World Walking Day inspired us to go beyond the ordinary and push our limits, despite the cold and wet Scottish weather! Our staff, volunteers and the ‘MYlife’ group should be immensely proud of their dedication and involvement in this remarkable achievement.

At Ardgowan Hospice, we are delighted to have been part of this worldwide event, and we look forward to more opportunities to come together with Duncan and worldwalking.org to challenge ourselves even further!
