At Ardgowan Hospice, we are continuously inspired and uplifted by the incredible fundraising support we receive from our local community. Their efforts, creativity, and generosity help us provide vital care and services to those in need.

On this Fundraising Friday, we want to thank all of our enthusiastic fundraisers who have supported us recently, showcasing the power of community spirit and highlighting some of the fundraising efforts in Inverclyde:

Skelmorlie Bowling Club hosted the Kerry Sweeney Memorial Day. On the day, they had a full green with 28 players, a fantastic mix of bowlers and non-bowlers, and juniors also got involved. The fundraising memorial tournament raised a fantastic £1000 for Ardgowan Hospice.

Local care home, Kincaid House, hosted a Summer Family Fun Day in aid of Ardgowan Hospice. On the day, they had a raffle, tombola and bake sale, children’s games, face painting and live entertainment. Their kitchen team also kept everyone well fed with a delicious BBQ that proved very popular. They raised an incredible £2,000 on the day from all off their fundraising activities.

Local boy Jackson McLuskey, 11, has set up his own business, Jack in the Box, in memory of his grandad and great-gran. In his business, Jackson sells squishies, fidget toys, and sweets to raise money for Ardgowan Hospice. During his initial fundraiser, he raised £260 and will continue to fundraise at school fetes and Christmas markets.

On the 8th of August, 16 members of the Connor Family, took on the 10.25-mile cycle around Millport in memory of Christopher Connor on what would have been his 80th birthday. Their fundraiser made an incredible £2978!

Local supporter Rebecca Fletcher took on the Paisley 10k, which she ran in 1:28;46 to raise funds for Ardgowan Hospice. Rebecca’s friends and family got together to support her and raised £820. A huge thank you, and congratulations to Rebecca for taking on this challenge!

A group of male supporters, including Jack Mitchell, got together to raise money for Ardgowan Hospice’s Transport team, completing the 13-mile walk from Faslane to Balloch. Together they raised £800.

Friends and retired teachers Anna McIndoe, Liz McKenzie, Diana Renfrew and Moira McKay put together a Handbags & Gladrags event at the Chartroom in Inverkip. Local ladies packed out the venue to purchase pre-loved handbags and scarves, as well as enter a charity prize draw, helping to raise £2,500 for Ardgowan Hospice.

A team of 30 from Dales Marine took on a bike ride around Great Cumbrae for the second year in a row, battling wind and rain showers to raise a fantastic £2,000 for Ardgowan Hospice. They partnered with On Your Bike and CalMac to ensure they had minimal costs and could raise as much money as possible.

Blackthorn Rovers FC held their annual Cameron Cup game in memory of Kieran Cameron and Scott McBride, and saw last year’s cup winners, Blackthorn Rovers FC, go head-to-head with previous Blackthorn team legends! On the day, an incredible £1,718 was raised. For the second year in a row, Blackthorn Rovers FC took the win 3-2. Congratulations to everyone who took part.

Greenock Fire Station, alongside representatives from HM Coastguard, the Police Scotland Marine Unit, and the Scottish Ambulance Service, joined forces to host a Fundraising Day in aid of Ardgowan Hospice. They raised a total of £1406.49 through raffles, food and drink sales and donations from activities. Scott and the team at the station thanked everyone for their support on the day, and for taking time out to raise money for Ardgowan Hospice. He added: “It’s important for us to engage with the community and to let them see what capabilities we have in our day-to-day duties. The local community always seem to rally round when there are events like this, and that’s great to see.”
