2024 – A Year of Hope and Generosity

As we look back on 2024, we are filled with gratitude for the incredible support and generosity of our community. This year has been a testament to the power of coming together to care for one another. From memorable fundraising events to expanding our services, here’s a look at what we’ve achieved together:

Caring for Our Community

In 2024, we provided compassionate care to hundreds of patients and their families, offering vital support at some of the most difficult times in their lives. Whether through our inpatient unit, community nursing, or MYlife wellbeing services, every interaction reflected our commitment to making every day count.

Fundraising Highlights

This year, we saw our supporters step up in incredible ways to ensure we can continue delivering essential care:

  • Jingle Bingo: The festivities got underway with a great night in the Greenock Town Hall raising just under £5,000.
  • Girls’ Day Out: Our Girls’ Day Out was another great success, with the event raising £8,500 for Ardgowan Hospice.
  • Festive Bucket Collections: Held across Inverclyde, these collections brought in vital funds and spread festive cheer.
  • Firewalk 2024: Our Firewalk saw many of our fundraisers feeling the heat and raising vital funds for the hospice.

Together, these events raised significant funds, ensuring we can provide care and comfort to those who need it most.

Generosity That Inspires

This year, the generosity and dedication of individuals in our community truly inspired us. Their incredible efforts raised significant funds to support our work, and we are deeply grateful for their contributions. Here’s just a small show of the amazing efforts by the people of Inverclyde and beyond this year:

  • Derek Watters’s Golf Day: £25,000 raised through a fantastic day on the greens.
  • Danny Knox Golf Day: A wonderful day at Gourock Golf Club in memory of Danny Knox raised a magnificent £10,000.
  • Mar Hall Golf Day: With a wealth of celebrities in attendance, the golf day at Mar Hall raised £6,303 with a second event in the works for next year.
  • Laurie Milne’s Dress to Impress Event: A glamorous evening bringing in £9,689.72.
  • Fiona Conway’s Swim: Making waves with an impressive £7,286.84.
  • Liam Martin’s Half Marathon: A stellar run raising £5,973.75.
  • Angela Slaven’s Zumbathon: Dancing her way to £5,252 for the hospice.

Each of these fundraisers went above and beyond to support Ardgowan Hospice. Their creativity, passion, and commitment have made a tangible difference in the lives of our patients and their families.

Thank you to everyone who supported these incredible efforts, including those who are not on the list – you are the heart of what we do!

MYlife: A Place for Connection

Our MYlife service has grown this year, offering bereaved individuals a space to focus on emotional, physical, and social wellbeing. From art therapy and gardening to support groups and practical advice, MYlife continues to bring light and connection to our community.

Memorable Moments for Patients

Creating meaningful experiences is at the heart of what we do. In 2024, we organised outings and activities that brought joy to our patients, including a behind-the-scenes tour of Celtic Park, creative workshops, and special family days. These moments remind us of the importance of finding joy, even in challenging times.

A heartfelt thank you also goes to Paul and his wife from Better Chauffeur Travel, who generously provided two minibuses and their time free of charge to assist with transportation for the Celtic Park tour. Their kindness ensured our patients could travel comfortably and stress-free, making the day possible. A special thanks also to local taxi driver, Stephen Hendry, who ensured that those patients using wheelchairs could be transported to Celtic Park and back.

Another big thank you to our tour guide Martin and his team, whose support and warmth made the visit even more memorable – they are a real credit to the club! Their dedication and hospitality truly enhanced the experience for everyone involved, leaving lasting smiles and stories to cherish.

Looking Ahead to 2025

As we plan for the year ahead, we’re excited to build on 2024’s successes. With new events and innovative ways to connect with our community, we are ready to continue our mission of care, compassion, and support.

Thank You

To our patients, families, supporters, staff, and volunteers – thank you for making 2024 a year to remember. Your kindness and generosity inspire us every day. Together, we can make 2025 even brighter.

Here’s to another year of hope, care, and community. From all of us at Ardgowan Hospice, we wish you a happy and peaceful New Year!
