Fundraising Friday: Challenge Edition
At Ardgowan Hospice, we are continuously inspired and uplifted by the incredible fundraising support we receive from our local community. Their efforts, creativity, and generosity help us provide vital care and services to those in need.
On this Fundraising Friday, we want to thank all of our enthusiastic fundraisers who have supported us recently by taking on challenges, showcasing the power of community spirit, and highlighting some of the fundraising efforts in Inverclyde:

14 fundraisers took on the island-hopping adventure, alongside our Ambassador Ben Kane and Board Chairman Steve Graham. They covered 52 miles of coastal paths, raising a fantastic £6,495.

In May, Kilmacolm Golf Day hosted a charity golf day, where 20 teams of four took to the course for a brilliant day of golf, fundraising and community spirit. On the day, attendees donated via team entries, generous donations, our silent auction, beat the pro challenge and spot the ball to raise an incredible £11,051 for Ardgowan Hospice.

WitchWood Run co-founders and organisers Scott Beveridge and Adam Real chose Ardgowan Hospice as the race’s first-ever charity partner. The event took place at Everton Scout Camp, with a 5.6km racing loop for participants to run/walk as many times as they please in a 24-hour window. The organisers raised £1,452 on the weekend, and local supporter David Henderson also took part in the challenge in aid of the hospice, raising an additional £380.

A local family made up of cousins and their partners, known as Lizzie’s Lot, took on the challenge of trekking up Ben Nevis to raise a fantastic £2070 for Ardgowan Hospice.

The Danny Knox Foundation held its annual fundraising golf tournament in memory of Danny at Gourock Golf Club. The day raised over £10,000, with £1,500 of it being donated to Ardgowan Hospice.

Work colleagues Bernadette Richmond, Taylor Williams, Nikki O’Donnell, Lynne Mceleny, Ryan O’Donnell and Martin Goodwin took on the challenge of trekking up Ben Lomond in April to raise funds for Ardgowan Hospice. When we asked Bernadette about their walk, she said “My friend Joanne passed away at the hospice in April, she had been there a few times through her treatment. The love, care, and support shown from the staff at the hospice, not only Joanne but all her friends and family we will forever be grateful for. The trek up Ben Lomond was the toughest experience I’ve ever faced, the wind and icy rain was a challenge in itself, to the point we could not feel our hands to take a proper picture at the top….although we did manage a short clip to have a fireball shot to toast Joannes memory, and try to heat our insides up!”. They raised a fantastic £2,280, well surpassing their £500 target!

In March, the McKinnon family took a 14.6-mile walk from Greenock (starting at Drumfrochar Train Station), with a halfway stop at Wemyss Bay Station, then via The Meigle to Largs. Their final stop was the Wemyss Bay Station Bar, where they enjoyed a few well-earned refreshments and topped up their hydration levels. Their fundraising in memory of Gordon McKinnon raised over £5,000 for Ardgowan Hospice.

Local boy Euan Watters took on the incredible challenge of 156 holes of golf over 2 days at his home course, Gourock. Both of Euan’s grans were cared for at the Ardgowan Hospice Inpatient Unit, he said, “…the care the hospice gave me, and my family during both my grans’ battles was amazing and something we will never be able to repay them for, but I’m hoping to raise some money through doing something I love, golfing, to give back”. Since completing the challenge, Euan has raised over £8,200 for Ardgowan Hospice. A tee-rific achievement!
