Leave a Legacy of Compassion: Gifts in Wills for Ardgowan Hospice

At Ardgowan Hospice, every gift makes a difference in the lives of patients and families we support. Whether it’s providing vital care, emotional support, or simply being there during life’s most challenging moments, the impact of your generosity cannot be overstated.
What is a legacy/gift?
A gift in your will, also known as a legacy, is a meaningful way to leave a lasting impact by supporting the people, causes, or organisations that matter most to you. It allows you to allocate a portion of your estate to a charity, individual, or specific purpose, ensuring that your values and commitments endure beyond your lifetime.
Legacies can take various forms, such as a fixed amount of money, a percentage of your estate, or specific items of value. Including a gift in your will is a thoughtful way to create a positive and enduring legacy while providing for your loved ones and making a difference in the world.
Why Gifts in Wills Are Essential to Our Work
Elaine Grealey, our Head of Income and Generation at Ardgowan Hospice, said: “Gifts in wills are incredibly important to Ardgowan Hospice. They allow us to plan for the future with confidence, ensuring that we can continue to provide our much-needed services to those who rely on us. These gifts, no matter the size, create a lasting legacy that touches countless lives.
By leaving a gift in your will, you’re helping us provide compassionate care for years to come. It’s a way to ensure that your values live on and that your kindness continues to make an impact long after your lifetime.”
It’s Not Just About Money
Many people believe that gifts in wills need to be significant sums of money, but that’s not the case. You can leave:
- A percentage of your estate, such as 1% or more, while ensuring your loved ones are cared for.
- Specific items, such as paintings, jewellery, or collector’s items, which can be sold to raise funds.
- A fixed amount of money, no matter how small, to support our services.
Every contribution, big or small, helps us make a difference.
Free Will Writing Month: A Perfect Opportunity
Twice a year, during Free Will Writing Month (March and October), we partner with local solicitors to offer a free will-writing service to our supporters. This is a fantastic opportunity to create or update your will while supporting a cause you care about. Participating solicitors will help you include Ardgowan Hospice in your plans if you wish, ensuring your legacy reflects your values.

This includes the full name and registered address of the person, charity, or organisation you wish to benefit, along with any specific instructions about the type of gift – whether it’s a set amount, a percentage of your estate, or a particular item.
