RUN-draising Friday

At Ardgowan Hospice, we are continuously inspired and uplifted by the incredible fundraising support we receive from our local community. Their efforts, creativity, and generosity help us provide vital care and services to those in need.

On this Fundraising Friday, we want to thank everyone who has supported us recently by showcasing the power of community spirit by highlighting some of the fundraising efforts of runners across Inverclyde:

In May, fundraiser Martin raised a fantastic sum of over £500 when running the 2025 Edinburgh Marathon. Speaking to Martin, he said that “Ardgowan Hospice is a charity that holds a very special place in our family’s hearts. We’ve experienced firsthand the incredible difference their compassion and dedication can make during some of the toughest times. Raising money for  such a meaningful cause made every step worthwhile.”

Anne Marie took to the streets of Inverclyde to compete in the London Marathon My Way Marathon which raised £621 for Ardgowan Hospice. Speaking to Anne Marie, she said that “I chose the Ardgowan Hospice for both personal and professional reasons. Professionally, I work within Inverclyde as a Community Physiotherapist… I see first hand the positive impact the Hospice can have on these patients and their families, and have to give special mention to your staff, especially physiotherapist John Kelly who truly puts patient care first when they need it most. From a personal perspective both of my parents (who are sadly no longer with us) used the services of the Hospice for which I will always be truly grateful.”

Margaret and her sister run the Race for Life every year in memory of our mum and of my sister’s best friend but with her sister unable to run due to injury. Margaret decided to challenge herself to still run and chose to run the Race for Life 5k in Aid of Ardgowan Hospice raising over £350 because she believes “the work we do within the local community is vital and wide reaching, not just to patients but to their families, friends and the wider community. We are very fortunate to have the Hospice in Inverclyde.”.

On the 10th of May, over 60 runners from Mind Over Miles came together run 5K and raise money for Ardgowan Hospice in memory of the founder Craig Docherty’s mother, Susan. A fantastic sum of over £1300 was raised during their run from Cove Road to the Spinnaker in Gourock.

Mary Robinson raised a fantastic sum of £465 during the Edinburgh Marathon 2025 for Ardgowan Hospice. It was a challenging race with hailstones, strong wind and sun” she followed up by telling us “I chose to fund raise for Ardgowan Hospice because they supported me and my family in 1998 when my husband Stephen Robinson was dying. At the young age of 35 he developed a very aggressive cancer and died leaving two very young children, Sara was only two months old and Seamus was 18 months. With the support of the Hospice we were able to be with him in a calm environment in the last days of his life. Again this January a family member was supported in Hospice care. My nephew, Nicholas lost his partner Lauren at the young age of 37, when she developed aggressive cancer. Hospice care is so essential in supporting the most vulnerable families at the most difficult times.”
