Take your first step to becoming a healthcare assistant!

A unique ‘try before you buy’ experience.

Ardgowan Hospice are proud to be the first hospice in Scotland to take part in ‘Volunteer to Career’ - a programme funded by Hospice UK and Helpforce which aims to support the professional development and recruitment of volunteers who are considering a career in healthcare by allowing them practical exposure to a healthcare environment.

We are looking for caring, dedicated and passionate volunteers (aged 18 and over) who wish to gain first-hand experience in the role of a Healthcare Assistant (HCA) and work with our Ardgowan Hospice team who are proud to deliver high standards of person-centred specialist palliative care.
-No prior experience or formal qualification needed.
-Must obtain Disclosure Scotland check (PVG) before starting the programme.
-Must be willing to volunteer for approximately four hours per week.

You will:
-Meet with like-minded people who are also interested in pursuing a career in healthcare.
-Receive training and learning opportunities throughout the programme.
-Work closely with our HCAs and Nurses in the IPU, gaining practical care experience.
-Be encouraged to reflect on your learning journey and set targets so that the programme can be adapted to you.
-Complete theory modules to help you better understand palliative care.
-Meet with our Community and Wellbeing Teams and learn about their job role.
-Be provided with help to create your CV and mock interview experience.
-Be supported with the next steps to enter further training or employment.
-Be guided and supported by a mentor every step of the way!
