Fundraising Friday: Ardgowan Hospice Staff
At Ardgowan Hospice, we are constantly inspired by the incredible support from our local community. Their dedication, creativity, and generosity enable us to provide essential care and services to those in need.
This Fundraising Friday, we’re shining a spotlight on the staff at Ardgowan Hospice who have gone above and beyond. From taking part in fundraisers to organising events themselves, their support has been invaluable. Here’s a glimpse of their fundraising efforts and how you can get involved:
Loch Lomond Swim: Fiona Conway, Head of Finance and HR, participated in a sponsored swim across Loch Lomond – a length longer than the English Channel. The journey took 16 hours to complete in a relay format with four of her friends. Thanks to her courageous efforts, Fiona raised a remarkable £5,966 for Ardgowan Hospice.
Firewalk 2024: A number of our staff at Ardgowan Hospice took part in the Firewalk this year. Colette Cameron, Marketing and Communications Manager, Ewan Boyle, Marketing and Communications Officer, Heather Kyle, Volunteer Coordinator and Nicole Middleton-Dvorak, Volunteer Coordinator all took part in the challenging event.
Mannequin Challenge: As part of a national competition, staff, volunteers and board members took part in a Mannequin Challenge for Hospice Care Week. The staff were tasked with standing in the shop windows for hours in the hope of raising funds through purchases of the items on sale in the shop. The challenge was a great success, with Ardgowan Hospice winning the national award.
Zipslide: Staff at Ardgowan Hospice took part in a zipline across the glide to raise vital funds for the hospice. The 100ft high and 1245ft long challenge, launching off from a crane next to the stunning Glasgow Riverside Museum, gave the staff some excellent views of Glasgow during their fundraising efforts.
Zumbathon: With more than 90 people in attendance, this year’s Zumbathon was a roaring success. The Member of Parliament for Inverclyde, Martin McCluskey, as well as Councillor Francesca Brennan, both took part in the 6-hour-long exercise. Nicole Middleton-Dvorak also took part, with the event raising £5,252.
Charity Football Match: Colette Cameron, our Marketing and Communications Manager, organised a charity football match in m memory of her brother, Kieran. The event was a roaring success, with the total reaching £1,762.90. The funds went towards new Virtual Reality headsets for our IPU unit which have gone down a treat with the patients.
Mount Kilimanjaro Climb: Dr Joyce Cameron took on Mount Kilimanjaro to help raise vital funds for Ardgowan Hospice. The charity effort saw her climb the almost 6,000-metre-high peak – which is the highest single free-standing mountain above sea level in the world.
Joyce initially decided to take on the challenge to mark her 60th birthday but decided to launch the fundraiser after taking up a role here at the hospice in February. Her magnificent efforts saw a total of £2,452.47 raised for the hospice.
